27th June 1980, A new house!

The winner of the competition to design the new Parliament House in Canberra was announced 26th June 1980. The competition, which attracted an initial 329 entries, was won by the American based Mitchell/Giurgola practice with Australian born Richard Thorp as the nominated architect.
