There was more than one first place this year!

On Tuesday November 3rd Michelle Payne became the first woman jockey to ride the winner of the Melbourne Cup. She rode Prince of Penzance who triumphed against an international field. He was trained by Ballarat trainer Darren Weir. His starting price was $101-1.

Michelle brought to fruition the dreams of her horse racing family, especially her strapper brother Stevie and her widowed father Mr Paddy Payne.
