The flood gates open!In the Australian Parliament there was a contentious ruling on October 3rd that head coverings including the burqa were to result in the isolation of the wearers behind a glassed in area. The pronouncement received much criticism and short shrift, largely because, after consideration, there did not appear to be a good explanation for it. Apart from anything else, it seemed odd to be restricting people alleged to be a potential security risk to an area preserved for children and there did not appear to be any record of someone so attired visiting Parliament in the first place. It was rescinded on October 20th, 2014. |
