Clear!

Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announces his resignation from politics on the first day of sitting of the new House since the election of the new parliament on September 7th, 2013. Having been deposed and then re-instated as Prime Minister during the Labor years in office Rudd was instrumental in bringing in new rules for the deposition of Labor leaders within the Party. His successor, Opposition leader Bill Shorten has worked to maintain the status quo.

Kevin Rudd's resignation finally brings to an end any speculation that he might seek the leadership again and will result in a by-election in his seat of Griffith.
