Columbia is lost.

The space shuttle Columbia disintegrated nearly 40 miles above the Earth on Saturday February 1st at around 9.00 AM US EST.

Those killed were commander Rick D. Husband; pilot William C. McCool; payload commander Michael P. Anderson; mission specialists David M. Brown, Kalpana Chawla and Laurel Clark; and Ilan Ramon - Israel's first astronaut. The shuttle was returning from a 16 day science mission.
