The Victorian State Election was to be held on October 10, 1992. Encumbent Labor Premier Joan Kirner was wrestling with the results of an independent audit which had revealed to the Victorian public the massive state debt that had accumulated during the Cain years and into her leadership.

There had been heavy rain.
