It gets worse!

Geelong Football Club fortunes rallied after the first announcement of the retirement of it's star player Gary Ablett on February 1st, 1991. The Club went from strength to strength as Ablett made a comeback and played in three more Grand Final appearances in 1992, 1994, and 1995. At this time the economy in the Geelong area particularly suffered after the collapse of The Pyramid Building Society and an Australian recession.
