Hecklers!

The Victorian Football League (VFL) was about to change its name to the Australian Football League (AFL) for the 1990 season as the code began to comprise teams from states other than Victoria.

In the long meantime journalists Keith Dunstan and Douglas Wilkie had formed the Anti Football League (AFL) on Sunday, 16th April, 1967. The resultant twin acronym was ignored, probably in the interest of the greater good.
