Expensive petrol!

A 24 hour tram and public bus strike was held on December 13th, 1989 and another the following evening. Public bus employees maintained support for tram workers amongst whom the conductors had been replaced by the scratch ticket system.

Indexation and excise in line with the CPI - inflation was running at 9% - was the cause of petrol price rises.
