Working on redundancy.

Staunch Republican Bill Hayden became the 21st Governor General of Australia. He was offered the post by Labor Prime Minister Bob Hawke and was the first untitled person to accept the position. Bill Hayden had previously held the position of Foreign Minister in the Hawke Government and was former Leader of the Australian Labor Party from 1977 - 1983 when he stepped down to make way for Bob Hawke to lead the party.
