It's hard not to notice...With further nuclear testing on the way France announces the early release of one of the men responsible for the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in what was regarded as a breach of the original sentencing agreement with New Zealand. The Rainbow Warrior affair and the continuation of nuclear testing in the Pacific put a lot of strain on the previously positive perception of France in Australia. Concerning the cloud, while it should be pointed out that above ground testing was stopped altogether by France at the end of the 1970s, France's breach of the sentencing agreement was decidely public (le privilége d'un caricaturiste). |
