On 30th january 1983 Australia played England in the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup at Adelaide Oval South Australia. In the 50-over match England won by 14 runs to make the Series: England - 2 to Australia - nil.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser's administration was clean bowled as BHP began the acquisition of the Utah Construction Company which resulted in redundancy and the loss of employment for hundreds of steel workers.
