A farewell symphony...

World wide concern about the depletion of the various whale species resulted in the International Whaling Commission's (IWC) moratorium on commercial whaling that was adopted in the amendment to the Schedule 1982.

Meanwhile Argentina and Britain were involved in the Falklands War following Argentina's occupation of the Falklands. On April 3rd, 1982 The United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 502 calling for withdrawal of Argentine troops. After 72 days on June 20th, 1982 hostilities ceased when the British re-occupied the South Sandwich Islands.
