The series in 1981 saw England fight back from being 1-0 down after two Test matches to achieve historic wins at Headingley, Edgbaston and Old Trafford. At Headingley, England won by 18 runs after following-on.

Ian Botham dominated the series. He took seven Australian wickets as well as scoring 199 runs at Headingley, another 5 wickets for 11 runs at Edgbaston, and then a further five wickets and while scoring a century at Old Trafford.
