Into the dark?

A total of 489 terrorist attacks occurred during 1981 and at this stage they were on the rise world wide. On May 13th there was an attempted assassination on Pope John Paul II, by a Turkish national, Mehmet Ali Agca. Originally Agca claimed to be a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, but it is now thought the assassination attempt may have been ordered by others due to Pope's stance on restrictions on religious expression in the Soviet Union and the fear that this might carry further than other protests as the Pope was a Polish citizen.

There had been a total Lunar eclipse in January, 1981.
