ANZAC Day.
ANZAC Day reunions, and the reminiscences and discussions that are shared, are a tradition amongst Australian servicemen.
1980 was the year of the Moscow Olympics and Australians were divided as
to whether to take part. Soviet troops had
entered Afghanistan at the end of 1979 and several nations including
America, Japan, Canada, and West Germany had boycotted the games as a result.
Australia finally attended after a 6-5 vote in favor by its Olympic committee,
however it was left to individuals and teams as to whether they would boycott the games themselves. As a result not all Australian athletes and teams attending the games and the Australians that did attend marched behind the Olympic flag rather than the Australian one at the Opening Ceremony.
