Five days after this cartoon the Gleneagles agreement against
apartheid in sport was finally signed on 15th June, 1977.
Australian Prime Minister Minister Malcolm Fraser had been proactive
against apartheid and with other white Commonwealth leaders signed
the Gleneagles agreement to discourage sporting contact with South
African teams. He was at odds with New Zealand Prime Minister Robert
Muldoon who signed the agreement and then ignored it.
Meanwhile many of Australia's indigenous population were at risk and
in great need of help.
