On 7th May, 1974 Willy Brandt German Chancellor of The Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) resigned his position as leader. It was revealed that one of his closest aides, Gunter Guillaume was an agent of the Stasi - the East german secret police.

USA President Richard Nixon resigned his office eventually on 8th August, 1974. He was under pressure to do so due to the consequences of Watergate and almost certain impeachment.
