Not quite an encore...

Based on his personal experiences and on documents, interviews and reports with other prisoners who had been incarcerated in Soviet prison camps, the first volume of 'The Gulag Archipelago' by Alexandr Solzhenitsyn appeared in 1973. His unpublished manuscripts were smuggled to the West from 1971. He was charged with treason and exiled from the Soviet Union in 1974. He was awarded of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970, the award was denounced by the Soviet government as a 'politically hostile act'.
