An explosive situation!
After the 1965 discovery of Natural Gas supplies in Bass Strait
eventually in 1969 - 1970 the population was encouraged to convert
appliances to 'cleaner' natural gas. The slogan that 'Electricity makes
life easier' was a counter for the choice to go electric.
Ban the Bomb campaigns against further development of nuclear
sources that were blamed for aberrations in climate and effects on
living organisms were also prolific, at this stage the effects of
atmospheric tests were becoming widely known.
