Difficult, difficult, difficult.As the 1969 Federal election approached the Gorton Government faced three difficult issues, the purchase of the F-111 which was seen as overpriced and costly, Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War, and the progressive withdrawal of British influence in Malaysia and the presence of Australian troops there. At the time, none of the government's positions on these were sitting well with the Australian public. |
