Who'd want the job?

Sir Paul Hasluck had resigned from politics on the 10th February 1969 and had been offered the position of Governor General by Liberal Prime Minister John Gorton.

Sir Paul became the 17th Governor General and was the 4th Australian to hold the position. His scholarship was well known. John Gorton, and before that William McMahon, had been preferred over him for leadership roles in the Liberal Party.
