Funding.
The Labor Club at Monash University announced it was raising funds for the
Vietnam National Liberation Front, the political arm of the Viet Cong. At the
time Australia was one of the countries supporting US led military action
in Vietnam with troops.
The cartoon was subsequently chosen as "Cartoon of the Week" by the "Sunday Mail" and republished in that paper on the 29th July 1967. The student decision and the commentary it generated was a very visible indicator of the divisions that existed in Australian society concerning the war in Vietnam.
