Aftermath of Black Tuesday.

Tasmania, "the island state" - sometimes ignored by the "mainland" states and even occasionally left off maps - suffers the "Black Tuesday" fires, killing 62 people and damages at about 40 million (in 1967 dollars) with some 653,000 acres destroyed. A massive rebuilding program was launched, largely funded by the Federal Government, charities, and, at the time, the largest payout by the insurance industry in Australian history.
