The start of a new deal?

Fifty years bridges the gap between Cuba's loss of diplomatic ties and the trade embargoes by the USA and now the restoration of international consular communication between the two countries. President Fidel Castro has been in charge for most of the time, although recently (2008) his brother Raul was declared President.

Trade sanctions by the USA are still in place.
