The election date is set.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd today visited the Governor General Quentin Bryce to request that an election be held. As a result the Federal Election date is set at September 7, 2013.
The 'Light on the Hill' was a phrase made famous by then Prime Minister Ben Chifley in an election speech in 1949 to rhetorically describe the objectives of the Labor Party for the ordinary members, later it was also used by Paul Keating. At the current time it may have some resonance with the Australian public who have waited all year to go to the polls.
