Record numbers of boat refugees seek asylum in Australia. The dangerous journey and inadequate boats leads to danger of sinking and loss of life by drowning (1,000 or more people in the last 12 years - most since 2009). The Royal Australian Navy is often called to the rescue but is now having problems with the condition of its own ships.
