At the top of the ladder!
On 9th October, 2004 Liberal Leader John Howard wins the Australian Federal Election for a fourth term. Unfortunately for defeated Labor Leader Mark Latham the 'Ladder of Opportunity' for all Australians that the Australian Labor Party built its campaign on turned into a ladder for the Howard Government with the encumbents being returned with an increased majority.
Sir Robert Gordon Menzies served as Australian Prime Minister from 26th April 1939 tp 29th August 1941 and from 19th December, 1949 to 26th January, 1966. The second term the longest anyone has held the office. John Howard will pass previous second place getter Bob Hawke on December 21, 2004.
