Nothing like company.

1994 was declared as The Year of the Family and there was trouble in the ranks of the Liberal Party.

Liberal leader John Hewson had lost the so-called 'unloseable election' to Labor's Prime Minister Paul Keating in March, 1993. On 23rd May, 1994 he lost the leadership to Alexander Downer who was preferred over the former Senator Bronwyn Bishop (now Member of the House of Representatives). John Howard later became leader unopposed when Alexander Downer resigned the leadership on January 26th, 1995.
