Resource Management!

Eastern Australia was flooded in many areas during October, 1990.

At the same time Labor Premier Joan Kirner verified the sale of pine plantations (timber and land) which would earn millions of dollars for the State of Victoria as it struggled with financial problems. The sale would subsequently interfere with the original purpose of the plantation setup - that a sustainable industry would be established. In the meantime, the Resource Assessment Commission had been set up by the Hawke Government so a considered approach could be given to the questions about the future of Australia's native forests and management of resources.
