In 1975 the National Aborigines Day Observance Committee NADOC decided that the event should be for a week from the first to the second Sunday in July. NAIDOC now includes Torres Strait Islanders. The new name National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee has now given its name to the whole week and not just the day.
