Prime Minister Bob Hawke conveys a message to Treasurer Paul Keating as economic problems crowd the horizon. The Parliamentary Remuneration and Allowances Act 1990 was passed after a review of the salaries of Members of Parliament and had resulted in the Industrial Relations Commission allowing a substantial pay rise.
