The Australian Federal Election held on 23rd march, 1990 resulted in a fourth consecutive win for Labor Prime Minister Bob Hawke who defeated Liberal Opposition Leader Andrew Peacock. At the time Australia was well into recession with the prospects for the future looking bleak, it was another year before the economy started to pick up.
