A woeful economy.

Prime Minister Bob Hawke, Treasurer Paul Keating, and Victorian Premier John Cain face rising problems especially on the economic front as the effect of the 1987 global financial meltdown starts to permeate the Australian economy two years later.

Melbourne, Victoria was also host to the hit season of the stage version of Les Miserables at the same time.
