Remember who's paying!

The 1989 Fosters Caulfield Cup was to be held later on the day this cartoon was published. The race was won by Cole Diesal. With the home loan interest rates just raised to 15% punters were eager for a win.

To advertise its responsibility to customers a slogan had been devised for the State Bank of Victoria with the statement "It's your money Ralph!" In 1990 the bank collapsed under the weight of bad loans made by its merchant banking arm, Tricontinental and was sold by the State Government to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
