There goes the neighbourhood!

In 1988 it was the Bi-Centenary Year of European Settlement of Australia.

On the 23rd August, 1770 Captain Cook had claimed the whole of Eastern Australia for Britain and, despite the presence of Aboriginal tribes throughout the country, Australia was assumed to be 'terra nullius' as far as occupation was concerned.
