Capturing the public mood.

The Liberal Party leadership at this stage was swapping between John Howard who was the present Opposition Leader and Andrew Peacock. The bemused public was suffering the effects of economic downturn and higher costs. The popularity polls showed the Hawke-Keating Labor Party Government well ahead.
