Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos was replaced a few days later in a popular revolt which installed the elected leader Corazon Aquino. Australian Liberal Party Opposition Leader was to face the electorate against continuing negative opinion polls in July 1987. The incumbent, Bob Hawke, prevailed.
