Darkness.

Cricket was in the news because the recent Australian Captain Kim Hughes led the rebel tour to South Africa after being left out of the 1985 Ashes squad to go to England.

Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke was already speaking out and in October, 1985 was a member of the Commonwealth negotiation team with the leaders of New Zealand, Canada, India and Zambia who tried to persuade recalcitrant British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher that trade sanctions would help to achieve the end of apartheid and racial discrimination in South Africa.
