A good year!

As Australia defeated Sweden in the 1983 Davis Cup final Prime Minister Bob Hawke has trophies to be proud of. 59 national teams had competed in the 72nd annual tournament and the Final was held at Kooyong Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Earlier John Bertrand had skippered Australia II to take the America's Cup from the USA after 132 years and on the political front, as leader of the Labor Party, Bob Hawke had won the office of Prime Minister from Liberal Party leader Malcolm Fraser.
