The first Council of Australian Governments' (COAG) meeting for new Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Treasurer Paul Keating with Australian State Premiers was held in Canberra on 30th June, 1983. The Australian dollar had not yet been floated and the Premiers attended to put forward their financial and other requests in the face of a huge Commonwealth deficit.
