Australia in March 1983 and the severe drought had not yet broken.

The Australian Federal Election was to be held on March 5th and the Australian public were suffering from a case of policy overload as Liberal Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser and Labor Opposition Leader Bob Hawke wound-up their campaigns. At the time Bob Hawke was ahead in the polls.
