Fishing for answers...

A challenge to the Democratic Party nomination for President in the 1980 elections was to come from Senator Edward Kennedy - brother of the assassinated President John F Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. Encumbent Jimmy Carter was running for a second term as President of USA.

The 'Chappaquiddick incident' which involved the death of Mary Jo Koppechne - a Ted Kennedy campaign worker - particularly overshadowed the Senator's campaign at the time.
