Life on the edge.
Two days before on 15th August, 1979 United States President Jimmy
Carter had secured the resignation of Andrew Jackson Young, 14th US
Ambassador to the United Nations and the first African American to
hold the office. He had long service in various positions in
government and the Civil Rights Movement. President Carter was forced
to ask for his resignation when it was revealed that Andrew Young had
held secret talks with the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) - a
move which was at that time against American Law.
