Looking for a new spot.The Australian Labor Party had followed up on the Refugee problem and lead by Opposition Leader William Hayden had formulated policy. At this time the Labor Party Leader was seen to have a challenger in Bob Hawke who was ACTU President 1970 - 1980 and President of the Australian Labor Party 1973 - 1978. He was elected to the Federal seat of Wills in 1980 and in February 1983 replaced Bill Hayden as Opposition Leader and Leader of the Labor Party. |
