Why change?
The day after this cartoon
Conservative Leader Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister on 4th
May, 1979 and remained in office until 28th November,1990. She was
the longest serving British Prime Minister since William Gladstone.
She is the first woman to have served in the position.
In the run up to the election most opinion polls showed that voters
preferred Labour Leader James Callaghan as Prime Minister even as the
Conservative Party with Margaret Thatcher as leader maintained a
lead in the polls.
