All things being equal!

Deng Xiaoping was a prominent leader of the Republic of China although the Chairman was the respected octogenarian Ye. Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam was Minister of Defence and greatly revered as a leader past and present. The Sino-Vietnamese war occurred between 17th February, 1979 - 16th March, 1979. Both sides claimed victory in this last of Indo-China wars. China felt it had provided by this incursion, which was in response to Vietnam invading Cambodia, a salutary lesson to the Soviets who were powerless to protect their ally Vietnam.
