After having been unsuccessful in securing television rights for broadcasting Australian cricket, Australian businessman, Kerry Packer set a break away cricket competition, World Series Cricket. Amongst the new technology introduced as a result were microphones on the pitch to allow television viewers to experience the authentic sounds of cricket.
