Five days after this cartoon the Gleneagles agreement against apartheid in sport was finally signed on 15th June, 1977.

Australian Prime Minister Minister Malcolm Fraser had been proactive against apartheid and with other white Commonwealth leaders signed the Gleneagles agreement to discourage sporting contact with South African teams. He was at odds with New Zealand Prime Minister Robert Muldoon who signed the agreement and then ignored it. Meanwhile many of Australia's indigenous population were at risk and in great need of help.
