Getting into the club!
Prime Minister Gough Whitlam was also Foreign Minister until November
1973. Rex Connor was Minister for Minerals and Energy. During this time,
despite Australia's neutral position on the Arab Isreali conflict, the
government was attempting to gain favor with the oil producing Arab
nations by restricting the export of Australian LP Gas, thus helping
support the prices the Gulf States were getting for their Oil.
Interestingly, it wasn't long after this that it turned out the Australian
Government was also looking at borrowing money from the Gulf States...
